ODE TO WESTONBIRT RUG INFORMATION

 

 

FACTS ABOUT THIS RUG

 

• The design was created from photos taken by Rachel John at Westonbirt Arboretum in October 2003.

 

• The design works equally well in contemporary and traditional environments - almost a chameleon in it's ability to adapt.


• Colours include red, mauve, purple, gold, yellow, beige, brown, russet and much more for a deeply rich constantly evolving colour throught each stitch.

 

• Size 2100 x 140o mms (83 x 55 inches). 25

mms (1 inch) thick.


• Weight 10 kg (22 lbs).


• Made Jan – March 2004.


• 50-60 strands of varied ply used to create a medium density stitch.


• Over 300 different wools used in this rug.


• Mixed Fibres 70% Wool, 30% mixed fibres eg cotton, silk, acrylic.


• The body of the rug is hand knitted/crocheted on handmade needles and crochet hook - made by Rachel. The tassels are hand knotted.


• Winner of the Enigma Art Gallery Awards 2004 - Textile category presented by Debbie Cripps of Frome (public vote).
